Dog Training Career: a very rewarding and exciting job!
There are many unique careers out there a dog training career is one of these. It can be a very rewarding and exciting job. Depending on the type of dog training you pursue, you could even be helping to save lives, or make life bearable.
There are many needs for dog trainers. A dog training career can entail you helping people make their dog friends behave, training a seeing eye dog for the blind, training a bomb or drug sniffing dog, and many other types. All of these help enrich lives and can be much more satisfying than the cubicle job many are stuck in.
There are a few options for starting a dog training career. There are training seminars and workshops, several universities, and career training programs that can help you get started. Many of these will also help you get job placement, whether with a professional dog trainer, or even starting your own dog training business.
Make sure that the dog training career programs aren't just correspondence. This is one career in which you need a lot of hands on experience. Working at an animal shelter or veterinarians officer during your training can also help out immensely, as well as giving you a great deal of exposure to the different breeds and types of dogs around.
Dog training isn't about just teaching Fido to sit or fetch. In a dog training career, you will need to learn about many different facets of animal behavior. Learning how to read a dog's moods and adjust your style of training accordingly is a large part of successful dog training.
You will want to figure out which type of dog training you enjoy the most, and also which types of dogs you would want to work with. For pets, the training is much more casual, and it's not a complete failure if their dog takes awhile to learn to fetch. If you are interested in a dog training career with say, police dogs, you will be under a lot of pressure to make sure the animal is completely trained, as lives can be at stake. No matter which path you choose, this is a very interesting and lively career.
