Training a Boxer Dog
When you have a boxer, there are certain things you need to know about boxer dog training. Although these dogs so not require a lot of maintenance, they do require attention. If you leave them along for long periods of time, they get bored and lonely and therefore into trouble. They do need to have obedience training and lots of love. A boxer is a big dog and is highly intelligent. This dog needs both mental and physical stimulation to keep it even-tempered and dignified. However, throughout the training, you have to take steps to keep their impish behavior and courage in place.
Boxers are lovable dogs and they get their name from their habit of standing on their hind legs and fighting with their front paws. Throughout history, they have been trained as working dogs, such as police dogs, hunting dogs and seeing-eye dogs. They have many favourable attributes, such as being alert, smart, self-assured and playful.
You can buy books about training your boxer as well as DVD's. When you train the dog correctly, you will have a dog that is loyal to you and makes a great guard dog. There are humane ways of housebreaking the dog, obedience training and training it to respond to your commands. Sometimes you may have to resort to having a professional trainer help you with the training techniques. This way you learn how to do things correctly so that your dog won't pick up any bad habits.
If you have a boxer and you work all day, it might be a good idea to hire a dogsitter to come in on a regular basis to entertain the dog and take it out for a walk. Once the dog gets used to being alone, it will adjust but you need to have plenty of toys around and perhaps a tape recording of your voice. If you leave a boxer alone in the house for a long period of time, you may come back to find some of your furniture destroyed, simply because the dog is looking for you and your attention.
